Victoria police distances itself from controversial facial recognition firm Clearview AI

The force says it has discontinued using the service and the technology was deemed unsuitable Victoria police is distancing itself from the controversial facial recognition firm Clearview AI, after documents released under freedom of information exposed the force’s use of the technology. Clearview AI is a facial recognition service that claims to have built up enormous databases – reportedly containing more than 3bn labelled faces – through the controversial practice of scraping Facebook and other social media sites, despite a number of those companies sending cease and desist letters to Clearview.
